At the center of TRADITIONAL HANDS is Cherokee Artist General B. Grant, enrolled member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. General Grant is an independent artist for over 40 years. He is gifted with multiple talents and known for his high standard of quality in everything he get’s involved in.
We, General and his German wife Ute manufacture, buy and sell Native American Jewelry & Art. The business started as a travelling business, vending mainly at Powwows and other Indian Art Festivals on the East coast (see the SHOW SCHEDULE).
In 2013 we opened a retail store in Cherokee, North Carolina, where we live.
Based in the beautiful ‘Great Smoky Mountains’ of North Carolina, TRADITIONAL HANDS Jewelry & Art Gallery features exclusively General Grant’s handmade Cherokee jewelry as part of a wide variety of high-quality Native American jewelry & art.
The newest addition to our fast growing business is a second Gallery in Cherokee (NC) which is connected to General’s working studio and a casting and jewelry manufacturing facility.
Here, in the original homeland of the Cherokee Indians, TRADITIONAL HANDS will produce the characters of the Cherokee syllabary in Sterling silver, wearable as pendants, earrings, bracelets, rings etc.. As a unique customer service, you will be able to write your own name or statement in the Cherokee syllabary characters, made from premium Sterling Silver.
General Grant is also handcrafting custom orders and cuts his own Wampum, Turquoise and other gemstones. As a customer you are able to watch him create custom jewelry or wait on your personalized order while sitting on the porch, enjoying the private, welcoming and hospitable mountain atmosphere.
In the near future, the new expansion will also provide a silversmithing school that will offer opportunities for dyslexic artists and other talented creators of art who don’t fit into the usual general school system.
Through General's work, his travels and many years of experience, we are associated with artists all over the United States and occasionally we will feature their work at our gallery or online. If you are a collector or interested in specific, unique and/or rare items or you are looking for a specific kind of artwork we might be able to help you find it. Please let us know what you are looking for, we’ll be happy to assist you.
We are welcoming and hospitable people and love to offer and share the Beauty of Native American Artwork with you.
